［略歴］
熊本県熊本市出身。オーストラリア国立大・地球科学研究所にて博士取得（PhD)後、アメリカに渡り、カリフォルニア大学バークレー校宇宙科学研究所、アメリカエネルギー省ローレンスリバモア国立研究所研究員を歴任し、2002年より東京大学にて教鞭をとる。
Yusuke Yokoyama is a Professor at the Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, The University of Tokyo. He is also appointed at the School of Science (Department of Earth and Planetary Science) as well as at Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences (Graduate Program on Environmental Sciences).
He received his PhD from The Australian National University (2000), where he conducted his study at the Research School of Earth Sciences. He then moved to the Space Sciences Laboratory, University of California, Berkeley as a postdoctoral chemist, and then was appointed as a research scientist at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Department of Energy, USA, before retuning to Japan in late 2002.
He was a lecturer at the Department of Earth and Planetary Science until 2008 and then moved to the Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, where he was an associate professor before becoming a full professor.
His research interest is to reconstruct past climate and environments to better understand physics and interactions of Earth’s various components such as cryosphere, ocean, atmosphere as well as biosphere.
Research Theme 研究テーマ
専門は地球化学、古気候学。同位体を使って過去の気候変動を復元し、地球表層システムの理解を深める研究を行っている。分析に用いる試料は、サンゴ、深海の堆積物、樹木試料、南極の氷、アンデス山脈の岩石等。ほとんどの試料は自ら採取。国連の気候変動に関する政府間パネルなど国際プロジェクトにも広く関わっている。
Yusuke Yokoyama specializes in geochemistry and paleoclimatology. His research centres on isotopes, which he uses to reconstruct past climates and to better understand Earth’s surface systems. The majority of samples he collects himself, and these include corals, deep-sea sediments, tree samples, Antarctic ice, and rocks from the Andes Mountains. He has been extensively involved in international projects, including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
